![]() My feeling is that you are better off with a few cheapo in circuit programmers (like the pickit). You can damage your programmer if it was not designed for it. The IC checker routine is user definable and I have used it to test simple logic only circuit boards. Most of the Wellons can also test basic logic ICs and simple rams. ![]() Typically from Wellon the lower cost units chip list is upgraded every 6 months. Its critical that the unit is around for a while to make sure you get proper support. I do have access to one (Im retired now) but even adapter heads can be hundreds.Īs for Chinese I like Wellon, the software was made in Canada a couple years ago but I cant say for sure about now.įairly comprehensive device list and I updated the software for my 3 year old unit a couple months ago. So, any favorites I should look out for I have this one: It cant program PIC processors though.įor in circuit programming I often use a DIP socket with wires that go to some kind of connector. I don t know what you intend to do, but if you repair boards and equioment (like test equipment) you often need to be able to deal with older parts.Īny comments, or points of view expressed, are my own and not endorsed, induced or compensated by my employer(s). If the last software release for a programmer is 1999, then you cannot program anything newer then 1999. It is dangerous buying old programmers, unless you find it is still regularly updated by the manufacturer. Usually the hardware tools from a particular microprocessor company can program even the most recent releases, so that is probably a better tactic rather then buying a programmer that you hope will be able to program a device that you may choose to use in the future. ![]() ![]() When you see a programmer on ebay that can program 20,000, 30,000. ![]()
